Over 15 years ago, Roberto and Ita Santizo met Kim Veness, a Canadian missionary who lived in Guatemala for three years with his family. Upon Kim's return to Canada, the Santizo's joined their visions with Kim and started Opportunity Missions Society. OMS mostly concentrated in the south of the country by near the Pacific coast. At that time, OMS was focused on constructing churches, houses, medical clinics, as well as, training leaders.
In 1995, the Santizo's set up the Santizo Missions Ministry due to the closing of OMS. They were still working in the south, but they found their work areas were expanding more towards the north and west of the country. This was a time of transition as the ministry was redefining goals and projects. It was during this time that the Spring of Hope vision was born in the town of San Lucas Toliman, southwest of Guatemala City. The vision turned into reality when they started a children's feeding program as well as a homework program for children after school.
In 2000, the ministry changed it's name to Promised Land Ministries, as it is known now. PLM continues to work throughout the country and has also expanded to El Salvador, having planted a church in Santa Ana, about a year ago. Church planting and leadership training have become a priority, among the various programs that PLM provides.
Presently PLM has established the main offices and a local church in Guatemala City. For the last 2 years we have been able to run our own mission house where we can accommodate the visiting teams and local ministers. The main office, the church and mission house are in the same facility. Our church in Santa Ana, El Salvador, established two years ago also runs a Spring of Hope program on a weekly basis. |
